Did The Cribs Invent Live8?

So who was the real brains behind Live8? While most people would point towards the obvious, Bob Geldof, a certain British rock band thinks otherwise. Ryan Jarman, one third of The Cribs, claims that the massive charity gig was actually his idea.

This surfaced during an appearance on the BBC music quiz program Never Mind The Buzzcocks, which aired yesterday. After correctly identifying the intro to "I Don't Like Mondays," Jarman said: "It's not my mate Geldof is it? I think he knows me. You don't want to know how? I invented Live8 see. This is not actually a lie."

So exactly how was Live8 Jarman's idea? He continued: "We were in the recording studio recording our album and I found Bob Geldof's mobile phone number while we were there and I sent him a text message just saying Live Aid 2. Lo and behold six month later Live8 comes round. It's just nice to know you've made a little bit of difference." Was it just a coincidence? Hmmm....

The Cribs put on one hell of a live show, which you should know after reading out multiple reviews throughout the past couple of years. If you have yet to catch them, make sure you do as they cross North American with Franz Ferdinand and Death Cab For Cutie through the end of April.
