Ussachevsky, Vladmir, A Poem in Cycles and Bells LP
My dad’s friend had Ussachevsky as a professor and though he respected him, he still had to chase him to Russia to get his final grade.
Letter U podcast: Ussachevsky, Vladmir, A Poem in Cycles and Bells

Void, Faith LP
I knew a guy with a Void tattoo; he got arrested for flipping off the cops.
Letter V podcast: “Text podcast” for Caetano Veloso’s “You Don’t Know Me” (sort of about that, anyway), and the song in question, too.

Tigerstyle On Tour
- story THE FADER
Glasgow, Scotland’s Punjabi production team (yes, read that one again) Tigerstyle are coming to America at the end of the month to play some rare club dates. They’ll be rocking their signature bhangra-meets-damn-near-everything remixes and originals at Tabella in Seattle (March 30th), the Fez Ballroom in Portland (March 31st) and NYC’s Knitting Factory (April 5th), so don’t miss out. Take a listen to one of their most recent joints, a jumpy take on MIA’s “XR2,” and read Eddie Stats’s Beat Construction piece on the duo from FADER 36 after the jump.

The Robin Thicke Before There Was A Robin Thicke
- story THE FADER
Remember Jon B? Dude just popped back up on “Tonight,” off the new Pawww Wawww album, Get Money Stay True. While the two are an absolute genius pairing, the end result never really takes off. BUT, it got us jonesing for Jon Boy’s late 90’s monster ballad “They Don’t Know,” which is never a bad thing. If the period detail in the video doesn’t do it for you (StarTac cellys! Polar fleece!), hopefully the on-screen Valentine’s Day shouts from when it aired on MTV Base will.

The key to watching this video of Vietnam playing “It Makes No Difference To Me” at the Levi’s/FADER Fort is to imagine what Michael William is thinking when he closes his eyes. For more words and photos check here.
Miami Mizells
- story THE FADER
(L-R) J Rocc, Madlib, Fonce Mizell (seated), Larry Mizell, Karriem Riggins, Rod Mizell, Peanut Butter Wolf
The week of the Winter Music Conference in Miami is in a constant state of flux from one year to the next. There was the addition a few years ago of M3 and then the absence of it this year, the weather, the guido fashion, the guidos, and the guidettes who love them. We thought the DJs must really feel bummed out, so we teamed up with Giant Step and Levi’s to throw a dinner honoring the legendary 70s production team the Mizell Brothers and invited some of the DJs attending the conference to join us. The attendee list was nuts, the most influential DJs and producers from all over the world came through and toasted to the guys who as “The Corporation” were responsible for “ABC,” “I Want you Back” and “The Love You Save” by the Jackson 5, and many more sampladelic relics. More photos by Phillip Angert after the jump.
