The Mother Project

Mother’s Day is this Sunday, and if you’re looking to celebrate the occasion in the least Hallmark way possible, tune into the US television premiere of The Mother Project, a documentary film by Jack Youngelson and Peter Sutherland about FADER photographer Tierney Gearon. The Mother Project specifically deals with the relationship between Tierney and her mother, who lives alone in upstate New York and has suffered from mental illness for most of her life. The film – like the photos it is based upon – offers up a revealing, affecting and often uncomfortable exploration into art therapy and family ties, and we think you should watch it on the Sundance Channel this weekend. Then give your ma dukes a hug over the phone.
