Back in April we got the news that Aussie singer songwriter Ben Lee was in the studio with producer John Alagia (Dave Matthews Band, Ben Folds), working on his new album, Ripe. He had quite a list of friends helping him out on the tracks, including Benji Madden (Good Charlotte), Benmont Tench (Tom Petty), Rachael Yamagata, members of Rooney, Sara Watkins (Nickel Creek) and Charlotte Martin. Oh yeah, and Mandy Moore. The album will be hitting stores on September 4 via New West Records.
Lee was also the subject of a documentary, shot by filmmaker Amiel Courtin-Wilson. The flick focuses on the past seven years of his career, going up to the completion of Ripe. It is chock full of interviews, including Thurston Moore, Liz Phair, Winona Ryder, Benji Madden, Michelle Williams, Mike Watt, Ione Skye, Claire Danes, Ben Kweller and many more. Is it smart to have ex-girlfriends on your own documentary? We're not so sure about that Mr. Lee!
