There was a nice campfire going last night in midtown Manhattan's Town Hall as chanteuse-of-the-moment Ms. Leslie Feist steamrolled into town for the first of two sold out shows. There weren't any 'mallows or dogs, but we had us some singin'. Tourmates Grizzly Bear kickstarted the shindig off right, filling the room well with tunes from the most excellent Yellow House. Their set was but wee however, the well-coiffed coffee house crowd twitching and ready for the love only Feist can bring.
Under many ribbons of patio BBQ lights, the songstress showed off her pipes and guitar chops (another reason to love her), pirouetting cleanly through several cuts from Let it Die and The Reminder, including a terrific version of "Mushaboom" right before the encore and a crowd-aided (naturally) rendition of "1,2,3,4." Bandmate and beau Kevin Drew made a brief appearance for a piano duet, as did some dude from the audience with an uncanny gift for replicating odd bird noises. Town Hall has serious some acoustics, ya'll.
Faces (and hearts) melted like those Nazi baddies from Raiders of the Last Ark. Maybe that's a bad example, but you get the point. Her voice is a beautiful beautiful thing. Watch her tonight on Conan, and if you can find a ticket go see her when she comes to town. Dates below.
