Live: Priestbird
- story THE FADER
Fact: there are few things more hardcore than a singing drummer wielding sticks AND samurai steel*. Priestbird (formerly Tarantula A.D.) blew people’s clothes off at Bowery Ballroom Tuesday night in an opening slot for Chicago post-rockers Pelican. We would have gladly stayed for those dudes had the boys in Priestbird not a) left us very much in the nude, b) damaged our hearing, and/or c) left us feeling overly satisfied in the riffage department. Generous portions of said riffage were doled out quickly and furiously, the trio with much metallic brio head-banging their way through sludgy cuts from their self-titled debut (check the video for “Season of the Sun” here) as well as a dusting off material from their Tarantula days. Check a couple more photos after the jump and catch the Priestdudes on their remaining dates, including a few Midwest dates with the old heads in Helmet.
*The aforementioned sword remained atop their gong throughout the duration of the set.
