Things in New York finally started to warm up when MGMT took the stage yesterday. They were easily the most attended show at the FADER Sideshow on Wednesday, especially if you take in account their countless street teamers with bricks of their stickers. Since we've previously only heard a few of their songs from their MySpace page, we were curious to see what they were like live. They didn't disappoint, and the group fashionably wore their glam meets shoegazer influence on their sleeves.
One of the highlights of their set was the David Bowie-esque vocally drenched "Weekend Wars," which left us with scenes from the film Velvet Goldmine frolicking in our heads. What's interesting about MGMT is the cross section of fans that were totally freaking out over them. Yes, there was the typical college kid hipster, but we would like to take this time to tip our hat to the older people in the audience totally getting their jam on. MGMT is currently on tour through November 19, so be sure and see them live.
