Audio: The FADER Issue 50 Podcast
- story THE FADER
Every several weeks we write one of these blog posts exhorting you to download the audio mix of music from our current issue. We’re doing it again for FADER 50, but this time it’s a more momentous occasion because the mix is culled from our 50 Quintessential FADER Anthems (see them all on page 80 of the magazine) which we lovingly and carefully cradled from our collection to the internet. Sure, if you read the magazine you probably already have some of these songs, but do you have them all? And are they “mixed by a DJ?” And what you don’t like gifts now? Take it and enjoy some of the jams that have brought The FADER staff together over the last decade or so.

Dollars To Pounds: King’s Cross Lockdown
- story THE FADER
Last week I went to bid my adieus to the King’s Cross Good’s Yard, the post-industrial hinterland comprising clubs The Key, The Cross and Canvas, and final messy destination of many a Dollars To Pounds column. The three venues will all kick out for the last time on New Year’s morning in anticipation of being bulldozed to make way for unaffordable housing, offices, superstores and soulless chain pubs.

Junot Díaz: Bonus Beats
- story THE FADER
The New York Times released their list of 100 notable books of 2007, and we are stoked to have read three of them (and Mothers and Sons kinda killed us so hard it’s a wonder we read anything else), but we’re most proud of our man Junot Diaz and his incredible novel of slang, Trujillo, fucking, not fucking, mongooses, Santo Domingo, Paterson, jogging, tanning, Goths, writing, Akira, love, the forties, the nineties, rings, the boardwalk, immigration, self satisfaction, suicide, and science fiction, The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao. We spoke to Díaz for issue 49, and snagged some extras from the interview for you, which you can read after the jump. Congratulations, Junot!
Freeload: Food For Animals, “Swampy (Summer Jam)”
- story THE FADER
Food For Animals’ album Belly is out next week on Hoss Records. We spoke to FFA’s Andrew Field Pickering aka Vulture Voltaire about one of our favorites from the album, “Swampy (Summer Jam).” Download it below, and read what VV has to say about it after the jump.

Audio: Hot Chip, “Ready for the Floor”
- story THE FADER
So it’s only the first 2 minutes of “Ready for the Floor” from Hot Chip’s upcoming Made in the Dark, posted to Hot Chip’s MySpace, but it’s 2 minutes more than you had a second ago. Be happy!

This is so good.
Here’s how Melina Matsoukas made it if you really want to ruin the experience. And thanks again to Shawty Redd for his production genius.
Estevan Oriol At The Movies
- story THE FADER
When we went and saw No Country for Old Men (intense! awesome!) at the ArcLight in LA, we were surprised to find a photo exhibition for FADER contributor Estevan Oriol in the upper lobby. Not only were there portraits of Ice Cube and Scott Caan, but there was a huge print of the above the photo of Tony Cox that he shot for us back in FADER #20. Nice! (Also, did you know that Kelly MacDonald, the actress who magnificently plays Josh Brolin’s Texan wife in No Country for Old Men, was also Ewan McGregor’s underage girlfriend in Trainspotting? What in the IMDb?!!!!)
Audio: Ghostface f. Method Man & Raekwon, “Yolanda’s House”
- story THE FADER
On this song Method Man does a hyper-detailed Ghostface style verse, and once again, Raekwon sounds like he’s rapping from a little ways down the hall. In any case, we are in no way mad at this or all the other new Wu material. Ghost’s The Big Doe Rehab comes out December 4th.
Video: Scarface f. Trey Songz, “Girl You Know”
- story THE FADER
If everyone had Willie D giving them advice at the breakfast table every morning there would be no hunger or global warming or divorce or anything. Just real talk.
