Live: Raveonettes at Terminal 5

January 22, 2008

Everything about the Raveonettes is shimmer. We saw them at Terminal 5 Saturday night, opening for Blonde Redhead, and that was what they were made of, from guitar tone to dress beads. Nothing about them is bad but we kept waiting for them to play "Aly, Walk With Me," which they did last. That song is total exact pop shred glisten. They no longer have a full drum kit, just a snare and tom and the song is "tom-tom-SNARE" like bare '80s rap and guitarman has the ill snake coil riff and then they all just turn to light static. Even the song title is explicitly perfect, "Aly" makes it. If it was just "Walk With Me" it would sound too vague and biblical, Aly gives it a proper call. Everything they do does sound like this, but to be plain, not nearly as good.
