If you have been itching to camp out in the Catskills, and happen to play an instrument, this could be quite interesting. From August 5 - 10, Medeski Martin & Wood are inviting musicians of varied experience levels to camp out with them at the Full Moon Resort. Ever wanted to toast s'mores with MMW? C'mon, we know you do.
It is going to be much more than enjoying the outdoors and singing camp songs, as they will have workshops, seminars, listening, music exploration and work on improvisation. Bassist Chris Wood explains: "Being a part of MMW for the past 17 years has taught me things you can't learn in school. I hope to pass some of that experience on to the students who come to our camp."
So what would a typical day be like? A recent press release laid it out, which will start with a breakfast with the band, a master class with MMW, lunch, free time, workshops, dinner, a performance, perhaps a jam session, or a film, or a bonfire, or a dance party. The sky is the limit!
They are only accepting 80 musicians at this camp, and they are requesting recordings from applicants. For more information, roll over to mmw.net. You have until May 1 to send in your submission.
