On The Cover - Frightened Rabbit

The Scottish quartet Frightened Rabbit has been a topic of conversation around The Tripwire's HQ ever since we received their debut album, Sing The Greys. It offered some amazingly dark pop songs that actually had substance AND melody, led by the powerful vocals from frontman Scott Hutchison. When word came that their sophomore album, The Midnight Organ Fight, was on its way, we knew that they were perfect for an On The Cover spot.

While the band was in Austin for SXSW, we got to spend some time with Scott and his brother (and drummer) Grant, as well as Billy Kennedy (guitar/keys) and Andy Monaghan (keys/guitar). These Glaswegian lads were totally humble, perhaps not even realizing the magnitude that their upcoming full-length potentially could (and should) have around the planet. It is by far one of the strongest records of 2008, filled with spot-on musicianship and tons of emotion in each and every second.

We were able to grab Scott Hutchison for a few moments, during which we recorded a Tripwire Acoustic Session. We'll be posting the incredible results of that session during Frightened Rabbit's On The Cover feature over the next few weeks. In the meantime, get yourself familiarized with the band through a MP3 download of the track "The Modern Leper," which is from The Midnight Organ Fight, which will be released here in the US on April 15 (digitally) and April 29 (physical release) via FatCat Records.

While the band was in NYC recently, we were able to take them over to the famed Shake Shack for a bite to eat. Our good friend Gabriel Kuo was on hand to snap some photos, which you can check out in the gallery below.
