Stylee Fridays: Aloha Rag NYC

May 23, 2008

We caught up with Tatsugo Yoda earlier this week, the dude behind legendary Hawaiian store Aloha Rag. The Honolulu flagship has been around for almost 20 years, which basically boils down to Yoda's pitch-perfect fashion curating skills—he was recently forced to open an NYC outpost simply to meet the demand of New Yorkers placing orders at the online store. Yoda was a master sushi chef in his past life, which in my mind makes perfect sense. Like good sushi, a good piece of clothing should be A) a little to the left of your ordinary routine but presented in a way that is palatable, B) of the highest quality and c) feel as good as it looks. The new store has a nice balance of fun discovery labels like Foundation Addict , a design duo out of Japan, and NY staples like Philip Lim—just check out the massive pockets on the men's Lim shorts and you'll see what we mean. Other picks for the summer include their smiley tees, also Philip Lim (our eBay search for smiley tees will never be quite as perfect as this one), aladdin pants and nautical top from Foundation Addict and his and hers Jesus slippers by Golden Goose.
