Freeload: David Vandervelde, “I Will Be Fine”
- story THE FADER
If you happened to see David Vandervelde live after his last album The Moonstation House Band, you might’ve been right to believe that he would go off in a raunchier, glammier direction on his next album because dude simply shredded the elfin pop of his recordings. And yet here we are, just a year or so later, he is releasing said next album, and the first song from it is like folk-trance. It is like a supergroup of pillows. It is like Christine McVie brainwashed him and Jeff Lynne taught him how to multi-track. It is, ready?, a lot like summer. We know we say that a lot, but summer is long and there is a need for many, many songs that are appropriate.
