New York Magazine is throwing two events in the next month, and while we have an appreciation for The National and Grizzly Bear who will be playing their 40th Anniversary at Hammerstein Ballroom on October 10th, it's their "Campfire on the Canal" show at the Brooklyn Yard that we're excited about.
The Yard has been one of our favorite outdoor venues in the city for the past 2 years. What at first glance seems unassuming, it's intimate setting and backyard-meets-festival atmosphere is fully recognized whenever a great band is propped up on the stage. People can watch from the bridge, families stop by just to see what's going on, and hipsters roam free without being harassed by thick-neck security types.
So why wouldn't you come by to see"renowned singer-songwriter José González set the fireside mood playing a full set in what will be his last New York solo show this year, and members of the Upright Citizens Brigade performing their favorite stories of sleepaway camp, spooky campfire tales and jokes so funny you'll shoot bug juice out of your nose"? And for pandering sake, you even get a 46-issue subscription to New York magazine with your ticket to the show and most importantly, FREE BEER will be served. Sigh... makes you wish it wasn't the end of summer.
