Like a gravity bong of tears and sensitive male conversation, Humboldt County recently hit theaters and introduced what we believe is a new genre of film: the Romantic Weed Comedy, or Ro-Weed-Co. It centers around Peter Hadley, "a promising medical student who has lost his way" and who somehow ends up on a pot farm in NoCal with Fairuza Balk. It's like Homegrown without all the distracting A-list talent. We actually published a photo essay about Humboldt locals by Theo Rigby in FADER Number 48, and to be honest, the fictional version looks pretty accurate. But it also looks unsettlingly similar to Garden State. We will reserve judgment until we've actually scene it, but let it be known that we are already thankful to the filmmakers for giving us a movie we can truly share with our rabbit/companion/ear-smoker Skeletor.
