Freeload: Yura Yura Teikoku, “Dekinai (Remix Extended)”

October 16, 2008

Every time FADER 29 feature subjects Yura Yura Teikoku come to the States, they manage to play a couple of shows in New York. Unfortunately, they only come to the States once a year, if at all, so this weekend's opportunity to witness their incredibly ill psych rock meltdown should not be taken for granted. RCRD LBL just put up the remix DFA and Mesh-Key are sending around with the invite. The original, from 2007's Hollow Me (Japan-only) was described by the band's Shintaro Sakamoto as meaning, "‘I can’t do it,’ but it also has the nuance of ‘don’t give up.’ Pretend not to resist but secretly fight back—that might be the most effective form of resistance.” DFA is sending it around with the invite, so maybe they're planning to put Hollow Me out in the US? We'll see. In the meantime, check out the video for 2006's "Kantsuu" above for an idea of what you're gonna see at the shows, which take place on Sunday at the Music Hall of Williamsburg and Monday at Maxwell's in Hoboken.
