Exclusive Audio: Mariee Sioux, “Love Song”

The Cure always worked because they were unafraid to be corny and upfront about their emotions. By that same token, Mariee Sioux created overly-ernest pan pipe and recorder accented folk music, so her cover of what might be The Cure’s most frank and sappy song makes a whole lot of sense. But Sioux flips the original’s ’80s guitar klang into a wispy and starkly honest acoustic finger picked version, vocals hushed, assured and more importantly, intimate enough to believe. The song comes from The Cure covers compilation Perfect as Cats, which is out now and also features FADER-faves The Muslims and Indian Jewelry, among a whole bunch of others.
