The Black Keys' Dan Auerbach Preps For Upcoming Solo Debut + Tour

The Black Keys' DVD Live From the Crystal Ballroom -- released today -- didn't even have time collect dust on a record store shelf before the Internet started buzzing about guitarist Dan Auerbach's upcoming solo debut.

Featuring Auerbach on guitar, keyboards, drums and other assorted percussion, Keep it Hid hits stores February 10. Produced and engineered by Auerbach at his studio, Akron Analog, the album has a family affair feel, with musical cameos and contributions by Auerbach's uncle James Quine on the track "Street Walkin," and fellow Ohioans Jessica Lee Mayfield (on "When the Night Comes") and Bob Cesare (on "Whispered Words").

Auerbach said he wanted the album to be fairly off-the-cuff. "I wanted a live, organic sound," he said. "Nothing was too plotted or planned, just a lot of spontaneity." He describes the album's sound as a mixture of the music he listens to, including psychedelia, soul and country.

The backing band on the album, Hacienda, will also head on tour with Auerbach as his backing band. The tour kicks off in Washington, D.C. on February 28 and wraps up March 14 in Los Angeles. Hacienda will also open, along with Those Darlins.
