Audio: The Roots f. Patrick Stump, “Birthday Girl”

The other night when we went to hear the new Roots album we started thinking that the only sure thing for a hit song on some level is if you make it about a birthday or a graduation, throw in the less popular dude from Fallout Boy and make vaguely creepy (in this context) BDP jacking lyrics like You see the girl looks good but her brain’s not ready before going farther and saying I shoulda known better because now I feel like America’s underbelly/ R Kelly, gutter smut peddlers/internet predators… sound not creepy and sorta good natured. This song will be played at someone’s birthday somewhere, maybe backing a slideshow or, like, a Wonder Years style opening montage. When is the graduation remix coming out? Or the Birthday Boy edition? We’re already tired of this version, which we guess is probably a good sign for The Roots and this song.
