Before Dean Spunt and Randy Randall were No Age, they were part of the LA punk band WIVES. And since seemingly everyday there is new talk of seminal bands reuniting to make some extra cash... er, I mean, answer the call of their fans, we'd like to suggest the reformation of the band that made this one-minute and thirty-five second gem.
Originally released on Cold Sweat Records, the song "Babies" was from the bands 1995 debut -- and only full length release, Erect the Youth Problem. A definitive sign of things to come, Wives was a rock band channeling post-punk (as opposed to a post-punk band channeling arena rock a la No Age) with a Sprunt's vocals (who back then went by Dean Allen Spunt) consisting of his signature screams and course shouts as he tries to keep up with the high speed of the music. Back then when people would describe Wives, they would get comparisons to other Cali melodic screamers like Blood Brothers and Daughters. Now they would just be compared to the preeminent LA post punk band No Age.
