Freeload: Pete Doherty, “New Love Grows On Trees”

We’re not sure what makes this different from every other week at NME, but Pete Doherty is on the cover of their Valentine’s Day issue, and to commemorate said cover he is in about 17 different spots on their website and they are giving away an mp3 of this song off Doherty’s new album Grace/Wastelands. Of all the songs we’ve heard so far, “New Love” is the best and most haunting — and most obviously influenced by Graham Coxon. It echoes the vibe of Pete’s well-documented troubles which, judging by this behind-the-scenes video of the NME cover shoot, are not yet over.
