Style TV: African Fashion Collective
We were treated to no less than four collections at the African Fashion Collective show presented by Arise Magazine, including the veteran Malian designer Xuly.bet, who made his return to NY fashion week after more than 10 years off the circuit. We knew that Xuly might have a few tricks up his sleeve, but nothing could have prepped us for the final walk-off with Grace Jones sashaying the runway in booty grazing hot pants—Amber Rose wishes she made batty riders look so good. The woman got a 10-minute standing ovation and we believe she earned it. Contributing Style Editor Mobolaji Dawodu went backstage before the show to talk fall ‘09 and pre-show nerves with the three of the four featured designers.
