There must be some method behind Mike Skinner's social networking madness, and we we're liking it. The Streets -- as he is better known -- left some Tweets for us in the past few days, revealing that he would be releasing three new songs this week, via his Twitter account. "I can't be bothered with all this trying to sell you music. It wastes valuable time," he said. And we can't agree more, so we're giving you a listen to the first track Skinner has released "I Love My Phone".
Mike Skinner might just be taking advantage of shameless self promotion thanks to social networking, but there is never anything wrong with some free music, ever. Prior to releasing the new track, Skinner said, "I think I regret saying I'd post 3 new songs," and "I'm gonna be in so much trouble," but there's nothing troubling about the witty track the rapper has released. Face it, we're all dependent upon our cellular telephones, and "I Love My Phone" is just a satirical take on "surviving without my outside line in the inside line of my trousers tonight."
While we await the rest of The Streets MP3s to be released, we're hoping this Twitter MP3 sharing is a fad that will spread to other musicians as well. Until then, we're going to wait for Skinner to finish "looking at some Picasso and then have a baguette merguez," so we can hear some free new tracks as soon as possible.
