Thrintage: Sun Thrift

April 23, 2009

Every other Thursday, FADER style contributor Bethany Cosentino crosses boroughs, counties and states to find us fine thrifted and vintage pieces on the cheap for her column, Thrintage. This week she traveled to Sunland, CA to check out Sun Thrift (sounds sunny.) Read her thoughts and peep the steals after the jump

I’ve literally been shopping at Sun Thrift since I was fourteen. My mom used to take my friends and I here on Saturday mornings, and we’d spend some serious hours bargain hunting. Back then Sun Thrift was kind of under wraps, but in recent years it has become one of the more well known L.A. thrift stores. Its popularity doesn't mean empty racks and high prices thou, this place is still golden, making it virtually impossible to walk out empty handed.

This time around one of my most exciting finds was a vintage acid-washed punk vest that I paired with a super soft tie-dye shirt. It seriously took me right back to high school when I found this! I also found a beautiful full-length dress with a lace fringe bottom that looked super cute with a brown fur collar I picked up. The dress and collar would look amazing with the pair of hounds tooth loafers I found, complete with leather tassels. To help me achieve Kelly Bundy babe status, I got this mint condition high-waisted denim GUESS skirt, and paired it with an amazing front zipper, striped bustier. One of my most amazing finds was a floral print backpack, perfect for summer road trips to pretty much anywhere. But if you don't find yourself able to escape the blazing asphalt of L.A., duck into Sun Thrift for a little retail therapy.

A few of my finds at a cheap cost:
Denim Vest: $2.99
Tie-Dye Shirt: .99
Denim Skirt: $3.99
Bustier Top: $3.99
Long Yellow Dress: $1.99
Fur Collar: $4.99
Backpack: $2.99
Loafers: $4.00
