It was a fun-filled, knees bouncing, foot tapping and straight up sweaty dance party kind of night at the Mercury Lounge last week. Guidance Counselor warmed things up with some steady synth tunes and a fuzzy hat. The hat soon came off as the bands frontman Greg Oden jumped down to jam with the audience. He laid down and flopped around after getting back on stage, belting into the mic. People were feeling it.
Starfucker played a dreamy and perfectly danceable set. The 3-piece / 4-piece from Portland, Oregan (they shared the same drummer with Guidance Counselor on this night) held it down with their most awesome songs including but not limited to "German Love", "Ladeda", "Florida" and "Pop Song". Towards the end they threw in their bloggable Cyndi Lauper cover of "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun". And HELLO, that is exactly what they did… all the girls (and even the boys) were bouncing them knees and singing along like it was their last karaoke night on earth. The song rang true to the band also, as 1 out of 4 was decked out in his favorite green mini-sundress and stockings (love the bobby pin side do also).
All in all, the boys of Starfucker heated up the place and put on an amazing show while remaining cautious to not leave out the infamous voice from the new album. How much of a wiggle is to say a wiggle?
