We are putting our wigs and sleeveless denim jackets back on today in honor of Anvil, the Canadian metal band that almost made it. We don't tell this story often, but a long time ago we had hopes of becoming the next Yngwie Malmsteen. Okay that was yesterday. But after watching this cautionary tale about the cruel, debilitating world of the music industry, we are just thankful to still have our hair. As for the dudes in Anvil, well, they still have each other, and according to Slash, they are one of only three bands who've stayed together for 30-some years, along with The Rolling Stones and The Who. Watching these dudes shop demos around town, get rejected by major labels, play mismanaged concert tours in Transylvania and try to pick up work in addition to their normal crappy jobs to pay for the recording of a new album actually makes us want to get our shit together. If you live in these cities, watch this documentary now or when it opens everywhere else this Friday.
Anvil! The Story of Anvil is Real! And Inspirational!
