Thrintage: St. Vincent De Paul

Every other Thursday, FADER style contributor Bethany Cosentino crosses boroughs, counties and states to find us fine thrifted and vintage pieces on the cheap for her column, Thrintage. This week in Los Angeles she checked out St. Vincent de Paul Thrift. Read her thoughts and peep the steals after the jump.

You know how people always say that bad things happen on the other side of railroad tracks? Well in this case, those people were wrong because on the other side of some abandoned railroad tracks in LA is St. Vincent de Paul, a thrift store filled with thirty-dollar sofas, killer Garfield coffee mugs, and of course, great clothes. Recently, St. Vincent’s has become the go-to thrift store for incredible deals on furniture, but they also always have a great selection of clothing. There are around five different rooms inside of St. Vincent’s, and each of them promises something pretty special.

The first thing I found, before even venturing off to peep the selections was a copy of TLC’s CrazySexyCool. I took it as a sign that I’d have a good thrifting day. After my initial luck, I scored again with three really awesome oversized t-shirts. Two of them sports themed, and one crazy colorful, extra large shirt that will look super cute over black tights. It was a good day for t-shirts, because next I found a perfectly worn in, baby blue and white striped top with silver buttons– it looked perfect under a vintage Lee denim vest. After that, I hit up the women’s section and found an off-the-hook American flag print dress. A hit at any summer BBQ! Even on the way to the register I spotted some finds, picking up an amazing pair of vintage circular frames that I plan to get my prescription put into. While paying for my items I pictured myself driving around this summer wearing dorky round glasses, bumping TLC and wearing an American flag print dress—totally the life of the party.
