Beware of the color purple. Seeing how it brought out the best, and arguably the worst in Lil Wayne, the rapper's signature hue is doing wonders for songbird, Yahzarah . Her silky voice remains smooth since early appearances on tracks with Phonte of Little Brother, and more recently, his Foreign Exchange project, with producer Nicolay. Outside of that, the artist formally known as Dana Williams shaved her dreadlocks, and draped herself in a new moniker, Purple St. James. New, but improved?
On "The Tickler (Daddy Go Faster)," the kind of movement where bodies do the talking is how Purple St. James makes a point. She sexes-up a pulsating one-drop rhythm, and her dash of Jamaican accent deserves a nod considering YahZarah's Washington, D.C. roots. For the lovers rock sound, YahZarah turned to the North Carolina's Apple Juice Kid, who most recent credits behind the board include work on Camp Lo's comeback project. Listen to the song below and check for YahZarah's The Ballad of Purple St. James on June 24th.
