Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, A.Vee is one of the most respected DJs in the scene today. Getting his start back in 1988, A.Vee has been influenced by many of the great pioneers of true DJ'ing. In 1991, A.Vee began his involvement in the battle scene by means of the DMC and Clark Kent DJ competitions, there he developed a reputation from his performances, which naturally translated into show dj'ing. Backing up rap artists like Black Rob, Masta Ace, J-Live, Afu-Ra, Paul Barmen, and many more.
Along with doing various clubs throughout the city and beyond, A.Vee has also developed a following as an on-air radio DJ. Doing guest spots on radio shows from coast to coast. At the same time A.Vee has created a following in the mixtape market with a series of underground hip-hop compositions.
From 1997 to 2000, A.Vee was also a prominent member of 88HipHop.com, an online hip-hop show on the Pseudo Online Network. This was an online hip-hop show, which featured top and upcoming hip-hop guest. The show streamed through the net via audio, and video, which allowed viewer to see and hear the whole 88HipHop experience with DJ A.Vee on the turntables.
In the summer of 99, A.Vee took part in the Sugar Ray & Goo Goo Dolls Tour, which was sponsored by Levis Silver Tab. For over twenty cities, A.Vee performed for the concertgoers at the Levis Silver Tab Tent located at the various venues.
In the year 2000, A.Vee performed in Lincoln Centers Summer Festival 2000. There, a piece written in 1951 by modern classical composer John Cage called Imaginary Landscape was performed by a DJ quartet. A.Vee, Christan Marclay (Medeski Martin & Wood), Kuttin Kandi (5th platoon), and Frankie Inglese (Soul Kitchen, BeavHer) performed the piece that was written for the turntable. The method of creating the piece was done by playing 42 different records and splicing them together. That was the first time it’s ever been performed on the instrument it was created for.
Also from time to time, A.Vee takes part in the Cornerstone Promotions 1200 Squad Mix CD series. Cornerstone Promotions, a marketing company, developed a series of monthly compositions recorded on to CD featuring some of the latest Hip Hop and R&B songs to hit the retail market. These compositions are compiled by some of the most influential DJs from across the country, and distributed to thousands of industry tastemakers worldwide. Sharing the honor with DJs like Stretch Armstrong, Revolution, DJ Muggs, & Premier, A.Vee s composition can be heard on Volume #22 & #40 of their Hip-Hop series, and also Volume #1 of the Suite 903 R&B series. The composition #40 was collaboration with legendary Philadelphia icon and good friend DJ Jazzy Jeff.
In 2001 A.Vee had a few vinyl releases under his belt. Collaborating with MC El da Sensei, formally of the Artifacts, A.Vee and his production partner DJ 3D had a release on Up Above Entertainment/Manhattan Records. The production team knows as THE COURTS, also has tracks featured on Masta Ace's Disposable Arts, Wordsworth's Mirror Music. During that same year, A.Vee also acquired an A&R position for Sequence Records. This label is owned and operated by Patrick Moxey, who managed the careers of Gang Starr for many years. There, A.Vee coordinated several of the releases from Sequence Records like Dan the Automator's Wanna Buy A Monkey, and DJ Babu's Duck Season.
In 2002, DJ A.Vee's scratches were featured on the critically acclaimed release by DJ Jazzy Jeff's "The Magnificent" album released on BBE records.
In 2004, DJ A.Vee was commissioned by Ecko Unlimited Clothing to score the music for their fashion show walk presented on The VIBE Magazine Award show, which aired on nation television. That same year, the video game giant ROCKSTAR Games commissioned A.Vee & his partner DJ 3D to partake in the music production end of their webpage. The project was known as BEATERATOR (www.beaterator.com). This site was an online opportunity for up and coming producer to learn from those who are actually in the industry making the music they love & enjoy.
Currently, A.Vee can be seen touring the globe DJ’ing various clubs and venues headlining or collaborating with longtime colleagues Prince Paul or DJ Jazzy Jeff. In September of 2006, A.Vee maintained a six-week residency at Club BonBon in Shanghai Chain. Soon after, with a joint venture with the Scratch DJ Academy and Royal Caribbean Cruiseline, A.Vee has secured onboard DJ residencies in the nightclubs on the ships that travel throughout the various Caribbean islands. Not to mention, DJ A.Vee can also be heard on a regular basis on Eminem's own Satellite Radio channel called SHADE45. In addition, to all of you viewers of the B.E.T network, DJ A.Vee has been fortunate enough to be featured in a commercial spot for B.E.T which airs quite frequently... Look out for it!!!
