Video/Sound Artist Tom Gaeraedts Imagines Blindness

August 14, 2009

Dutch artist Tom Gaeraedts uses ephemeral bits of motion and sound to transmit his vision, and in the case of his video, "Eros," his vision is translating the perception of someone who has none. He writes, "Highly fascinated by the perception by blind people, I tried to visualize how one would see something beautiful." What unfolds is a non-linear narrative short piece about a blind man who begins to feel and perceive beauty after he falls in love. The music is a bit OTT so the effect is more impactful with the sound off, like visualizing how a blind person sees in the silence of deafness. Watch here. (via Phase02)
