DJ/Producer J. Period teamed up with Somali-born K’Naan for a unique project entitled The Messengers. It’s a remix project that also serves as a tribute to some of music’s most influential and powerful voices (ie, The Messengers). A three track sneak peek released today, including remixes to songs by Bob Marley, Bob Dylan and Fela Kuti. Fresh off his own sophomore album, K’Naan has made it clear that this project is something special to him and that The Messengers is “far from a marketing tool, it is an honest musical offering”. Making this particular tape was also unique to J. Period, who’s usual method of entails “combining the best elements from everywhere to create something fresh, to make a new statement.” With a mix of the timeless influences of both artists new and legendary, the message is sure to be felt.
