There was much grumbling and eye-rolling when word broke out that Pearl Jam teamed up with Almost Famous director Cameron Crowe to film a secret live performance at the Showbox in Seattle in May. There was talk that the footage was for Target, the corporate giant also acting as PJ's "big box" retailer, some of which may still be true. But above is evidence to the contrary— a Crowe-directed video for "The Fixer," first single from the aging grungefathers' forthcoming Backspacer LP and just the second they've starred in since 1991's Ten. Not going to go too deep in breaking down (just press play) what's happening therein, but the clip seems to be as accurate a capturing of how dynamic the band is once they step on stage. Wow, that last sentence was incredibly dorky.
