my favorite song is “taxman” for 2 reasons. 1) i think george is a great songwriter and 2) that bassline is FUNKY!
September 14th, 2009 at 6:20 pm
Favorite song is “A Day In The Life”. I used to love it as a kid just for the melody. I used to change the track when it got to the noisy strings section build-up. I still remember the first time I listened through it and realized there was more. I was so giddy I jumped up and down in my basement!
September 14th, 2009 at 6:21 pm
My favorite Beatles song is Strawberry Fields Forever because it always gives me an image of never ending strawberry fields.
September 14th, 2009 at 6:23 pm
“Come Together” because it was the first Beatles song I ever heard, and remember hearing from when I was a little kid and liked it a lot and still like.
September 14th, 2009 at 6:24 pm
I have to say, my favorite is probably “Things We Said Today,” as it was one of the first songs where they started to push the boundaries of the lighter, easily digested pop music of the era.
September 14th, 2009 at 6:24 pm
“Here Comes the Sun” is a long-standing favorite of mine because it’s the right thing to listen to on the road out of a funk. When the fever breaks, when the night starts being ended by morning, when you finally start noticing the world again after a break up… it’s just really good.
“Little darling, I feel that ice is slowly melting
Little darling, it seems like years since it’s been clear
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun,
and I say it’s all right
It’s all right”
=h=

Cry Baby Cry – I bought the White Album on the drive back from covering Katrina for a newspaper, and for whatever reason that one’s stuck with me ever since.
September 14th, 2009 at 6:27 pm
Blackbird. Paul mc cartney rocked it at coachella
September 14th, 2009 at 6:28 pm
“A Day in the Life”, can’t explain why, just a great song.
September 14th, 2009 at 6:31 pm
“Yellow Submarine”, because when I was a little boy, my mother and I would sing it in the mornings. Great memories.
September 14th, 2009 at 6:31 pm
Hey Jude is my favorite song. The lyrics have always gotten me through a tough relationship. Guys don’t ever want to admit it but they are afraid or that they are trying to play it cool when they know deep down they really like you. Sometimes it’s not you, it’s the other person that has issues that won’t allow them to let you love them. So when I get the feeling the guy is about to pull a “Jude” on me I try to be patient and have a sip of lemonade.
September 14th, 2009 at 6:31 pm
Just one?
Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band & The reprise of this one…
On instant repeat…
Yep, sounds like my favourite one
.
September 14th, 2009 at 6:32 pm
For You Blue. This is just such a darn good blues song, it’s awesome!
Favorite Album, though, is Abbey Road. The second side, especially. Just pure genius!
September 14th, 2009 at 6:33 pm
My Favorite Beatles Song = “Across The Universe” cuz I lost my virginity to it. No shit.
September 14th, 2009 at 6:33 pm
It’s tough to pick one above all, but “Oh Darling” comes to mind because it’s a standout on Abbey Road which is one of the best albums of all time, and because McCartney set the bar high (literally) on soul-drenched vocals with this one. Everytime I hear “When you told me…” I feel it in my gut at least a little.
September 14th, 2009 at 6:33 pm
I’ve loved The Beatles ever since I was a child, so I’ve had many favorite Beatles songs. For the past few weeks my favorite has been While my Guitar Gently Weeps. It’s such a beautiful, well-structured tune and all the instruments fit together perfectly. And also, George is my favorite Beatle.
September 14th, 2009 at 6:34 pm
“a day in the life” is probably my fave, though it’s very difficult to narrow down to just one.
September 14th, 2009 at 6:35 pm
“Happiness Is A Warm Gun”: I’m a John Lennon man.
September 14th, 2009 at 6:36 pm
And Your Bird Can Sing – sweet, short and poppy. Savoy Truffle my #2.
-G.
September 14th, 2009 at 6:36 pm
“Eleanor Rigby” since it freaked me out HARD when I was like 9 years old.
September 14th, 2009 at 6:37 pm
My favorite song is also “A Day in the Life”, I think it’s the greatest song rock song ever written. There are so many layers of sound, so many changes and feelings throughout the song, it builds you up to this amazing peak, the hugeness before the last change being as close to orgasm as you can get audibly, finishing you off perfectly at the end and leaving you breathless and stunned. Every time I hear it, I pick out a part I didn’t quite notice before. It’s positively grand, shifted the way I thought about layering music. If I could marry a song, that would be the one.
September 14th, 2009 at 6:38 pm
“A Day in the Life”, the closing song of my favorite Beatles album was so artfully described by Jamsbio Magazine
I don’t think I can say it better than that. It’s gorgeous and it nearly brings me to tears every time I hear it. It’s like a full opera in 5 ½ minutes.
September 14th, 2009 at 6:38 pm
it’s all too much
because it’s recorded in a way that makes it sound like the band is in a room with the door closed, then someone opened the door for the clapping and vocals. it’s one of the only songs featuring hand claps that i actually like and will clap along to.
September 14th, 2009 at 6:40 pm
With a Little Help from My Friends…this song is gold. Everything I’m about. A song of hope and redemption. This song makes me happy. And its off of one of my fave albums, Sgt. Pepper’s ‘Lonely Hearts Club Band!
September 14th, 2009 at 6:47 pm
My favourite Beatles song once was “I’m Only Sleeping” but has recently changed. My mother recently passed away due to cervical cancer and we played “Let It Be” at her funeral. The lyrics are so comforting and so powerful. The song is now and forever shall be my favourite. It reminds me of my mom…and I pull inspiration from that.
September 14th, 2009 at 6:48 pm
“Eleanor Rigby” has got to be one of my favorites for the obvious reason that the symphony in the background is just completely amazing and filled with emotion. Also the lyrics tell a story that fully goes along with the emotions conveyed by the string instruments.
September 14th, 2009 at 6:50 pm
“Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” It’s my favorite song because:
It reminds me of a story my father told me once. He was a helicopter pilot in Vietnam that had gunners manning rocket pods on the sides. When this song would come on the helicopter radio the gunners would fire a pair of rockets into what ever thatch hut was closest while they sang along to the refrain. What a strange memory for a man to carry for such a jovial song…
September 14th, 2009 at 6:53 pm
“i want you (she’s so heavy)” – maybe? how does one pick a favorite beatles tune? kinda like picking a fave police song or steely dan or thin lizzy song? i could probably pick a favorite PM DAWN song… do they have a box set?
September 14th, 2009 at 6:53 pm
My favorite Beatles track is “Something” because I’m a sentimentalist who also really likes the work of George. Plus, it reminds me of my beautiful wife Brooke. They have so many great tunes though…very hard to choose!
Stay Frosty,
K.L.
September 14th, 2009 at 6:53 pm
it is extremely hard to pin point a favorite song from these gentlemen – it changes every month, every year, every day even. Today, my favorite song is “I Will” from the White Album. and hot damn I hope I win this contest.
September 14th, 2009 at 6:55 pm
My favorite Beatles song is “With a Little Help From My Friends” because the only way I do get by is with the help of others. It also happens to be on my favorite Beatles album and one of the best ablums ever made!
September 14th, 2009 at 6:56 pm
Get Back has got to be my favorite. As a Soul and Blues Boy, it’s the closest thing the Fabs ever got to down and dirty Southern Fried Soul! Hip and cool as f*ck.
September 14th, 2009 at 6:57 pm
‘the medley’ from Abbey Road since I’m being made to pick!! I know it’s not technically a song but it moves me and I LOVE IT more and more everytime i hear it!! i could go on forever on my favorites…
September 14th, 2009 at 7:04 pm
Must go with the sentimental favorite: Rocky Raccoon. This is the first Beatles song I remember hearing, and I quickly learned all of the words as a 3rd grader or something in that ballpark. Subsequently the first song I learned how to (sort of) play when I picked up a guitar years later.
September 14th, 2009 at 7:06 pm
I never, ever tire of listening to Eleanor Rigby. those strings are absolutely killer and always give me goose bumps. and the line about the funeral and Paul singing “nobody caaame. all the lonely people…” still bugs me out! I love a good story and I always thought this was a brilliant little story.
September 14th, 2009 at 7:07 pm
My favorite is “A Day in the Life”, just because I like the story.
September 14th, 2009 at 7:11 pm
To pick a favorite Beatles song is to pick a favorite note in music: Every one has it’s own awesome power and it’s own way of getting you to nod your head.
If I am forced to pick…”A Day in the Life,” because it’s almost everything about The Beatles rolled into a song. Symphonic walls of sound, heavy acoustic guitar, floating vocals, then rat-a-tat drums and LSD-like dream sequences. Deep lyrics and nonsensical ones, meaning and relaxation and everything else. It’s the quintessential Beatles song. I realize I’ve just put myself on the chopping block for making such a claim, but fair enough.
That is why this collection is so great, you no longer have to pick! Take ‘em all!
September 14th, 2009 at 7:16 pm
i think i have to say “happiness is a warm gun.” i listened to the beatles as a kid, from my parents’ cd’s and then was re-introduced to them in high school, through this song, recommended to me by the cool older kid in my gym class. the song goes through so many moods, and that guitar is just wicked.
September 14th, 2009 at 7:19 pm
Hey Jude can still make me feel like I’m stoned.
September 14th, 2009 at 7:21 pm
No Reply from Beatles for Sale
I don’t know anyone else will pick it . The lyrics are really awesome and the chorus is just a monster. It’s just one of the best things I have ever heard.
Plus that album has Eight Days a Week and I’m a Loser which are kind of super great too.
Pleassseeee can I have the box set?
Thanks Fader!
September 14th, 2009 at 7:30 pm
Her Majesty – it’s the sweetest little surprise ending I ever heard on vinyl. Beautiful little bow wrapping up an epic album. Still kills me….
September 14th, 2009 at 7:30 pm
when i die i want my ashes to be strapped to some fireworks and shot into the august night as the na na na na’s start in “Hey Jude.”
September 14th, 2009 at 7:35 pm
in my life” cuz my ma can play the organ solo note for note
September 14th, 2009 at 7:56 pm
my fav song is “ob li da, ob la da” because I used to dance naked to it.
September 14th, 2009 at 7:56 pm
My favorite Beatles song is “Strawberry Fields Forever.” Its my favorite song because I had the most incredible experience at Strawberry Fields (in New York’s Central Park) on the evening of December 8th of last year. Being the 29th anniversary of John Lennon’s death I was a part of a large gathering of people around the the IMAGINE circle and all we did for hours was sing Beatles songs. From the albums “With the Beatles” all the way to “Let It Be,” we sang it all, including the entire medley at the end of “Abbey Road.”There was someone playing drums and another playing the guitar. Also, all the vocal details of the songs were covered, being that there were 50+ people there. It basically showed that through us, John as well as the other Beatles will live on Forever.
September 14th, 2009 at 7:56 pm
Hey Jude. My fathertold me when that song came on he knew he would be dancing with a young lady.
September 14th, 2009 at 8:03 pm
“While My Guitar Gently Weeps” — I’m not even sure that I have such a specific reason other than I get chills every time I hear it. So if I have 10 or 20 favorites, it just sits slightly above the rest.
September 14th, 2009 at 8:08 pm
“Oh Darling”….because it’s the song that made me realize how irrational my ignoring the Beatles for the 1st half of my life was. i’m an artist but my mom never really listened to any music other than classical & the Beatles. so probably out of faux-rebellion, i always thought The Who were massively superior to the Beatles and thus, the Beatles were overrated. it made sense at the time.
after a break up and some personal issues, i was looking around for new music to motivate me and “Oh Darling” struck a cord. Paul’s semi-Little Richard impersonation, the background melodies on the chorus, the piano…it’s all there and all great.
September 14th, 2009 at 8:13 pm
“And Your Bird Can Sing”
To me this is the epitome of a pop song. The harmony, the chorus, the guitar. It is short and to the point. Perhaps one of their most underrated songs, but to me it illustrates everything they wanted to achieve; imaginative whimsical lyrics, perfect harmonies, and catchy guitar.
September 14th, 2009 at 8:23 pm
“In My Life” is a great song, playful, entertaining, and oh so soothing whenever I’m up, down, or just wanna feel great. It’s a great song that sums up the entire Beatles philosophy. I’ve tried winning this album on the radio, so hopefully I do better here. Already own them all, but this re-release is a must-have!
September 14th, 2009 at 8:23 pm
I would say “Yellow Submarine” because that’s my earliest memory of them…and because it’s a good song all around.
September 14th, 2009 at 8:24 pm
Lovely Rita is my favorite song. It is is both fierce and trippy.
September 14th, 2009 at 8:42 pm
“Long, Long, Long” because it is so lush and has a rad psychadelic outro.
September 14th, 2009 at 8:45 pm
My favorite is, “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”. It is my favorite because it reminds me of my soul mate. Whenever I hear this song I know my Love is near.
September 14th, 2009 at 9:00 pm
Helter Skelter. Heard it on a record when I was a boy. It totally ripped the doors of my concept of what music is and could be. That moment was one of the first moments of my life as an artist, forever trying to recreate that feeling. Unnerving, powerful, mysterious, unchained and completely beautiful. I had to listen over and over, just plain dumbfounded.
September 14th, 2009 at 9:13 pm
happiness is a warm gun. it’s not very often that a song is successful at being both a downer bummer and then glorious upper. i love it.
September 14th, 2009 at 9:23 pm
“And Your Bird Can Sing.” It’s up there with “Positively 4th Street” for brutal kissoff songs that sound unforced.
September 14th, 2009 at 9:28 pm
Oooh – I like Rocky Raccoon best, because it’s wild and unique… and because I listened to it when I was young as though it was a bedtime story.
September 14th, 2009 at 9:29 pm
“I’m only Sleeping” is mine today….the loose rhythm, reversed guitar solo and climbing chorus is so good.
September 14th, 2009 at 9:35 pm
got to get you into my life.
but really, how can you choose just one?
September 14th, 2009 at 9:50 pm
“something”, always been able to evoke that feeling of longing and want for the simplest of things
September 14th, 2009 at 9:58 pm
Tie between “Tomorrow Never Knows” and “She Said She Said” both from Revolver…some of the first songs from them to talk about transcendence. The Beatles will always be the greatest rock band of all-time. My awesome girlfriend found original Revolver, White Album, and Yellow Submarine vinyls…they’re timeless pieces! Please hook it up Fader!
September 14th, 2009 at 10:16 pm
“Happiness is a Warm Gun” – Had no idea what is was about when first heard as child, tried to read into too much as teenager, just appreciate now for its brilliance as an adult.
September 14th, 2009 at 10:16 pm
“Tomorrow Never Knows.” 40 years later, that tune is STILL cutting edge. Backwards guitar lines, a droning tamboura and all those crazy loops, coupled with that funky beat – “turn off your mind relax and float down stream…”
September 14th, 2009 at 10:16 pm
“Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band ” because in when I was 8 I got the cassette in my easter basket, and skipped the easter egg hunt after i heard that song so I could listen to the entire album for the rest of the day
September 14th, 2009 at 10:20 pm
You don’t ask much, do you?
Wow. I guess, if I really have to choose one song, it’s “Her Majesty.” Who else but the Beatles could make 23 seconds and a classic song form (AABA) sound like pop heaven?
September 14th, 2009 at 10:29 pm
oooooooooo nice
my favorite song would have to be “Here comes the Sun”.
I just really love George Harrison and It’s such a feel good song for anytime.
gotta love those beatles
September 14th, 2009 at 10:35 pm
My favorite song is Lucy in the sky with diamonds because my father told me it wasn’t about lsd and I proved him wrong.
September 14th, 2009 at 10:49 pm
I remember when i first heard a Beatles song, Help!, a dozen years ago in school. This is certainly the best describes my love for the Fab four.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:41 pm
Current favorite has gotta be “For No One” off of Revolver. The simplistic beauty of the melody and piano part are perfectly complemented by the french horn solo in the middle and end. Plus I wish I could just command a french horn solo in a song I wrote and then have it happen…. Paul is truly a genius. For proof check out his demo of this song…

September 14th, 2009 at 11:52 pm
my favorite is dig a pony because it’s the raddest.
September 15th, 2009 at 12:04 am
“In My Life” The lyrics are fantastic. The melody is infectious. And the message is sung so eloquently that I can’t stop listening to it.
September 15th, 2009 at 12:44 am
My favorite song by them changes from year to year but lately I think that my favorite song by them might actually be “I’ll Follow The Sun”. There have been days where I’ll put it on repeat for an hour or two.
September 15th, 2009 at 12:48 am
my fav. is The Long and Winding Road. fantastic lyrics
September 15th, 2009 at 12:51 am
Gun to my head, A Day in the LIfe.
I love that John got most of the lyrics from the newspaper and how it softly builds from almost nothing at all to full-blown pandemonium.
I love that Paul and John knew that the song would probably be banned by the BBC for the line “I’d love to turn you on”, but put it in anyway.
I love that John sorta-kinda-maybe calls the people who fill the Albert Hall assholes.
I love in the special features of The Beatles Anthology, when George Martin plays the first take of the song and then, after listening in silence for 20 seconds, sadly looks up into the camera and says, “He had a voice that sent shivers down your spine.”
I love stumbling through it on the piano in my living room until the last epic chord and letting it ring out for as long as I can muster.
It’s big and small and happy and sad and maybe the most beautiful thing your ears could ever hear; it’s my favorite Beatles song.
September 15th, 2009 at 12:54 am
“I Should Have Known Better” because it’s rocking and laid back. But also explains to a T my last relationship. You have no idea how hard it is to perform in a train cargo hold. Leave it to The Beatles.
September 15th, 2009 at 3:27 am
Tomorrow Never Knows because it’s druggie and nonsensical.
September 15th, 2009 at 3:38 am
“Dear Prudence”. I love how it’s about Mia Farrow’s sister Prudence, who was in meditation during their trip to India, and they’re asking her to come out and play.
September 15th, 2009 at 3:57 am
I love Helter Skelter. it’s pure energy, no silly melodies, just in your face (pete townsend) energy.
September 15th, 2009 at 4:27 am
“All you need is Love” Long gone are the day’s when songs contained such positive and pure messages. It’s so simple and has an eternal message. Timeless. Truly a song that transcends borders and culture. Love the brass!!!
September 15th, 2009 at 6:16 am
Like one person put, it’s very difficult to like only a single Beatles song.
However, the one song that has always stood out to me the most is “Across the Universe.” Similar to others, there’s a significant time and place I’m reminded of when I hear specific Beatles songs, but I truly admire “Across the Universe” from a compositional standpoint. The melody and harmonies are so beautiful and pure yet with such intricate and imaginative lyrics.
I have a backwards way of listening to songs: I usually listen intently to the music and less to the words, but the sound of the words John Lennon uses in “Across the Universe” represents such beauty in such a disturbed mind.
September 15th, 2009 at 6:33 am

September 15th, 2009 at 7:08 am
Has to be ‘Help!’.
2:19 of perfection. The intro, the chorus, the melody. I literally can’t fault it, and it’s pretty much what got me into the Beatles.
And it probably saved my degree since it raised a smile from me in a rough patch.
September 15th, 2009 at 7:13 am
Oh man, this one is hard. I’d be hard pressed to chose a favorite album let alone a favorite song. I’d have to say that my favorite song is whichever one I’m listening to at the moment. Ok, that’s pretty cheesy.
Ok, let’s go with “She Came in Through the Bathroom Window” since it just grooves so hard and that delayed progression in the second verse gets me every time.
September 15th, 2009 at 8:26 am
It’s Only Love as it’s the last song I sang in a gig.
September 15th, 2009 at 8:33 am
“Dig a Pony”
this is it!! i can’t explain why it’s so good but it’s the best..:)
September 15th, 2009 at 10:25 am
she’s so heavy
cause that song song is, all the way through
September 15th, 2009 at 10:39 am
My favorite Beatles song is “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” b/c of the Wu Tang “cover” version and also because it was a favorite song of my recently deceased uncle, and it reminds me of him.
September 15th, 2009 at 10:42 am
Don’t Let Me Down. Just the right amount of Paul on shout support but a total tone poem to Yoko and the perfect forlorn and cathartic acceptance of the band’s dissolution. Not to mention the anthemic, infinitely shout-alongable potential between those cascading trills. Just too perfect.
September 15th, 2009 at 10:42 am
Don’t Let Me Down. Just the right amount of Paul on shout support but a total tone poem to Yoko and the perfect forlorn and cathartic acceptance of the band’s dissolution. Not to mention the anthemic, infinitely shout-alongable potential between those cascading organ trills. Just too perfect.
September 15th, 2009 at 10:57 am
“Twist & Shout” because Ferris Bueller inspired me to start a band.
September 15th, 2009 at 10:58 am
It is most clear that “I’m Only Sleeping” penetrates all realms of existence. Robots whimper at the pure Kream of “lying there and staring at the ceiling, waiting for a sleepy feeling”. Corpses in their six foot holes, queef in elation.
September 15th, 2009 at 11:01 am
“Julia” off the White Album (fav album by far) written by John about his mother. It’s one of few Lennon solos…it’s so quiet and a nice way to end Side 1.
September 15th, 2009 at 11:06 am
So hard to pick. But gotta go with A Day in the Life. So many different elements go into the song to make it a 5 minute masterpiece. Also, when I was younger my dad looked like John Lennon on the cover of SPLHCB. Mustache, glasses, everything but the band costume.
September 15th, 2009 at 11:34 am
I’m gonna have to go with Tomorrow Never Knows because there’s just so much good stuff going on in there.
September 15th, 2009 at 12:01 pm
Hey Jude
September 15th, 2009 at 12:59 pm
It is, of course, Hey Jude. Because it magically reduces any kind of problem to the size of a pinhead and reminds you, that it is relationships that can make you truly happy. When I was feeling sad, Hey Jude got me up so many times, and I think that so much truth lies within the lines of that beautiful song. The most exquisite experience is to watch this version of the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BD3ovfZXO5Q because it doesn’t only feature the song, but reveals all the bonds the beatles had.. especially john and paul. not to mention the beautiful uniting ending where they all sing together…..
) awesome!!!!!
September 15th, 2009 at 1:31 pm
“Tomorrow Never Knows” from Revolver
John Lennon + plus backwards tape + LSD = heaviest Beatles song
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomorrow_Never_Knows
September 15th, 2009 at 2:25 pm
“Because” is an outrageously-amazing piece of music. The colors of the harmonies and lyrics really emanate a sensational feeling inside and make me forget about anything bothering me.
This song truly represents the quality of musicianship the Beatles had. There’s something about John Lennon’s songs that make me just stop everything a get lost in the music. I can completely understand why he will always endure time.
September 15th, 2009 at 2:27 pm
“while my guitar gently weeps”
the riff is just beautiful and it gets me each time. a lot of memories to that glorious song.
September 15th, 2009 at 2:52 pm
I am the walrus, because it’s my favourite song from my favourite period of theirs. they are just in the studio making amazing songs while combining them with out-there production, with no concern for “how will we play this live?” just a focus on making the best art they could. obviously, all their phases are great, but this is my favourite and this is my favourite song from that period. john is just having fun with words while the song goes psychedelic around him. everyone would still go nuts for the production and backing track if this song was released this year. and rightfully so.
September 15th, 2009 at 4:29 pm
Never gonna win this thing, but what the fuck….
The best Beatles song is ‘Don’t Let Me Down’ because of the last time they ever played it. In the midst of falling apart, starting to hate Yoko and each other they go to the roof unannounced and play five songs together. For the first time in God knows how long the boys are playing their music and having a GOOD TIME. Watching the rooftop performance you see them laughing, smiling, goofing around, and playing the BEST MUSIC THE WORLD WILL EVER KNOW.
For half an hour the luckiest people on earth got to listen to The Beatles one last time from the street. For half an hour everything stopped. For half an hour everything was OK.

I like Octopus’s Garden because right now I’m shrooming and there’s a fucking Octopus in my back garden….

I like Sympathy for the Devil because it’s talking about history and Don McClean referenced it on American Pie. I also like Wild Horses and Get off of My Cloud…the Best!

“I’ve Got A Feeling” always puts me in a good mood whenever I hear it.
“Everybody pulled their socks up. Everybody put their foot down. Oh yeah.”

“If I fell” is quintessential early era Beatles with wonderful vocal harmonies and chords that still feel fresh today.

My favorite Beatles’ song is ‘I Am the Walrus’ because it shows that no matter what senseless lyrics John Lennon managed to string together the Beatles could make it sound great and make the song a classic

The Fool on the Hill because my wife sang the words to that song to me on her death bed. Jane and I listened to that song every morning. We’d sing it to our children in there baths, we played it for them while they slept. Jane was a beautiful soul. The Fool on the Hill is not just a song to me, but it is what optimizes everything that is my love for Jane. My love for her is forever. The words she sang to me were her last words. They ring in my ears every morning, all the time, forever. The Fool on the Hill is the most beautiful song ever created.
I love you Jane.

Favorite Beatles’ song for always: In My Life (You want to say it’s such a cliche answer, but come on…there’s a reason. It’s so beautiful.)
Followed by “Ticket To Ride” and “You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away”.
Just thinking about them…

My favorite would be “I’m Happy Just To Dance With You” because if I were a musician, I could definitely imagine writing a song like that. I love most of “A Hard Day’s Night” because it was my first real introduction to the Beatles, and I’ve come that period of their music – simple, sincere and mad fun.

Hey Jude, because it was the first song I learned to play on the piano.
September 16th, 2009 at 2:46 pm
My favorite used to be “Across the Universe”, but the misses sings “Dear Prudence” as a lullaby to our (now 2 year old) son every night, and duders it knocks the lil’ guy out. My love of sleep really has moved this song up to top position in the Beatles catalogue. Girls cooing Beatles tunage(about Woody Allen’s ex sister-in-law none the less) is always a plus.

Obladi Oblada ( life goes on) …because it is just that simple., great hook, and supposedly ..an hommage to reggae ( i think the the Heptones covered it ) but recently Youssou N’dour adapted it with in wolof for a protest song about Senegal’ power outtages
This means, even a dumb song from the Beatles stil make us come together
check it if i m lying

Good Day Sunshine because it makes me smile and ain’t that the point?

I love “Let It Be”. Such a beautiful ballad.

“A Day in the Life.” The perfect merging of the Lennon/McCartney songwriting talents.
September 17th, 2009 at 12:39 pm
“While My Guitar Gently Weeps.” This song encompasses so many aspects of not only the Beatles, but of the time. It’s Georges masterpiece for two reasons, it exemplifies everything that is great about the Beatles, it’s creative, it has a great mealody, it’s catchy, yet it’s melancholy and subdued, and Clapton plays on it (and no body plays on a Beatles song). It’s the un-Beatles, Beatles song.

“Paperback Writer.” This is the Beatles in top form. So complex, so tight, so funky. Especially Paul. And with all of that, a dose of struggling sadness.
September 17th, 2009 at 5:14 pm
“You never give me your money” – Because its musically and technically superb as it morphs into the Sun King, reminding you of a late summers day and also you can feel the heartache in McCartneys voice lamenting the end of the group.
September 17th, 2009 at 7:35 pm
here comes the sun. my pops used to sing it to me. so beautiful.
September 17th, 2009 at 11:38 pm
“In My Life” – a perfectly elegaic song that only gained more poignancy in retrospect. Cool harpsichord, too.
September 18th, 2009 at 8:35 pm
“Help!” It’s a catchy pop song that’s a desperate cry for help. The guitars, vocal arrangements and drums are all so distinct, yet all fit together perfectly. And I love that bass line that hits you in the gut and pulls you down from what could have been a bubble gum pop high. Was originally written as a slow song but sped up to make it more commercial. Would have been interesting to hear what Lennon originally intended.

i am the walrus
Excellent transitions, message, progressions still un-mastered to this day. Appealing melody.

“And I Love Her”. Great 4 note beginning. Great harmony parts. Great piano counterpoint mid-song
September 20th, 2009 at 9:02 am
Always a fan of “Paperback Writer”. Growing up, it seemed so different from the rest of their songs because of it’s pace and momentum. Plus, you never heard it on the radio so it seemed mysterious somehow. Throw in that bass and fuzzed guitar and I’m a happy boy.

I’m Only Sleeping. The backwards guitar solo is great! And the whole song is perfect.

“Blackbird” is my favorite Beatles song, though it is very hard to narrow down! Every single time I listen to it the world seems simpler and full of hope. I love the message that it was originally written for (the 1960s Civil Rights Movement) and the fact that it can be applied to give hope to anyone in any difficult situation. It is the most perfect, beautiful song I have ever heard. Plus it’s on the White Album aka my favorite album ever! I can’t express my love for it enough!

I Am The Walrus.
This song is just amazing!!! Great lyrics, great music, great times listening to it!

Late, but I still wanted to voice my love for this.
Long live John and George!

I Want to Hold Your Hand – It shows greatness from the beginning and is my fiancee’s favorite song too!

How I have listened to more music than most people will in their lifetimes and even was a music critic at a major weekly newspaper in a city with a big-time music scene for three years, and to this day I find on average one familiar song per year that I didn’t realize was by the Beatles.

While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Remarkably textured.

“A Day in the Life”. The song builds up before finally crashing and melting your brain into a goop of goodness. When that final chord comes in it’s like the end of an amazing orgasm where you know you just reached that peak of ecstasy.

Here comes the sun. Beautiful song. Very comforting, especially soothing when one finds themself hanging on by a thread.
September 24th, 2009 at 8:18 am
My favorite Beatles song is Baby’s in Black: underestimated through the years, but a sparkling example of Beatles close harmony. ‘Oh how long will it take’… with John on lower voice and Paul on top high notes. Superb and very, very exciting!! After all those years it still impresses me a lot. The Beatles provided QUALITY, no more, no less.
September 24th, 2009 at 1:43 pm
“I feel fine” is my all time favourite Beatles song… Or maybe “I wanna be your man”… or even “It won’t be long”… damn no, it’s “I feel fine” !!! An old one but so beautiful… but I need to listen again to the other songs, so I really need to earn this box set !!!!

My favorite Beatles song is “The Word” because of the amazing rhythm!!!

‘Long, Long Long’ from the White Album- it really is a beautiful, beautiful song… It makes me think of an old grandfather clock standing in a hallway opposite a spiral staircase beside a window with a view of some sad, lonely, windswept yet beautiful landscape. I don’t know if this is a dream or if I’ve even been there. Either way, I love songs that conjure images.
My favourite line in the song (lyrically and musically) is: ‘Now I can see you… be you…’- it is so poignant and melancholy- I don’t think I’ve ever listened to that song without crying at some point.

“Being for the benifit of mr.kite” always inspires me. It is one of the most complex theatrical songs ive ever had the pleasure to hear. And the fact that it came from a poster lennon had is amazing. The song isnt personal to him it was just a story from his crooked brain. I dont think any one could have done this like he did in ‘66. Ahead of it s time and pure artistic creativity at it s finest.

I have three favorites as follows:
1) ‘I Am The Walrus’… I believe the epitome of psychedelic rock can be traced to this song. It also contains on of the most amazing string sections on any song that has ever been produced.
2) ‘I Gotta Feeling’… This song is great, especially as it was released on the Let It Be… Naked album a few years ago. An in-concert-live version of this song probably would have been several minutes past just because it swings and begs to just jam incessantly.
3) ‘A Day In The Life’… Seriously, who can think of melodies like this? This song is pure art from the words to how John and Paul trade off vocals to the little vignettes of verses. It is one of their most underrated songs.

My favorite Beatles song is “Hey Jude”. It’s my favorite because to me it represents four things; Peace, Love, Hope and Joy because it was written for a little boy whose parents were going through a divorce, and Paul was trying to make life cheerier for Julian. Did it work? I don’t know but it sure made a lot of other people happier, like me, who was also the same age as Julian when my parents divorced.
