gavin friday … gavin friday … GAVIN FRIDAY!
i would absolutely be over the moon, tickled pink and beyond ecstatic to go to this show. been waiting a long time to see gavin live in the states. it’s time. pick me. xo
September 24th, 2009 at 6:23 pm
Who do I want to see the most? Hmmm… well, that’s easy… Gavin Friday & JG Thirlwell! I’m probably the biggest Gavin addict on this side of the Atlantic! Not to mention… I adore JG Thirlwell just as much as Gavin, and the odds of the 2 of them performing in the same place, the same night are once in a lifetime! The only other time that may have sort-of happened was JG’s guest work on Virgin Prunes “The Moon Looked Down and Laughed”.
If I lived in NYC, I’d already have my tickets… but since I am out of the area… I would make the trip! So factor in the fact if I had to buy tix to show, plane tix, and a hotel… That’s alot of money I don’t have in this economy! However, if I won the tix… I would make the latter arrangements in a heartbeat!
Oh, and I’d love to see Guggi (since I LOOOOVE the Virgin Prunes), and I’d like to see Lydia Lunch perform in front of band instead of a spoken word show if possible! Shane MacGowan would be a long overdue performer I’d love to see before I did (or he dies) … and hell yes, I would love see members of U2 perform something out of character… I like surprises! Hal Wilner shows are great when it comes to surprises!!
So why should I win? Because I’m not a casual fan of Gavin… I’m a DIEHARD and have been for about 20 years!

Pick me -i wanna win
September 24th, 2009 at 8:40 pm
I would be SO thrilled to take my husband back to NYC to see Gavin. When we lived in NYC we were lucky to see him perform a few times. We would be honored to participate in his birthday celebration.. As I lost my job in April and there would be no other way for us to go. When I read about the lineup I really wanted to weep.
Mr Friday is a supreme performer and I can only dream of how he would be at Carnegie Hall. To see him the same evening as Guggi, Dik, Bono, The Edge, and Jim Thirlwell, in a show presented by Hal Willner would be the icing on the red velvet cake. We are long time admirers of Mr. Friday in his many projects. Please bring a couple of NYC exiles back to see him. Pretty please!! With a cherry on top! It would mean more than you could know.
September 24th, 2009 at 8:41 pm
Gavin Friday himself – the coolest cat on the block!
September 24th, 2009 at 9:21 pm
I would love to see all 4 members of U2, especially since this will be such a rarity for all 4 to be there separately.
September 24th, 2009 at 9:27 pm
Last time I saw Gavin Friday he was sporting a pink feather boa. I want to see him top that…
September 24th, 2009 at 11:10 pm
gav of course, never seen him live before. shag tobacco is velvet delicacy. peter chasing the wolf, singin drenched in the rain, with a shaved head, gav is all. thug looks, pillow voice. the polished earring amongst the filth of the rogue.
September 24th, 2009 at 11:14 pm
i want to see Rufus Wainwright and of course U2 – sounds like an unbeatable line-up!! AND i live just down the street from Carnegie. pick me! pick MEEEEE!
September 25th, 2009 at 3:57 am
i want Pete to win, for those of us with out a chance in hell of winning….petes your man….he’ll give us a cool run down of the evening or he should do…. and i’m going with pete i love his perspective like his style….petepetepete ; ) no doubt GAVwill shineshine on
September 25th, 2009 at 8:55 am
The obvious answer is Gavin Friday. There is only one Gav and he hasn’t hit my neck of the woods (Boston) in AGES….10-12 years? Talk about serious withdrawal! I miss you, boy! The added bonus to this lineup is a potential Prunes non-reunion (because we don’t do those!), a deconstructed U2, Joel Grey, Shane McGowan and Rufus Wainwright.

Bono!
September 25th, 2009 at 7:08 pm
Bono and Courtney doing an Ultraviolet (Light My Way) duet!
September 26th, 2009 at 9:55 am
I only heard about this show because I’m a Gavin Friday fan, so naturally I’m most excited to see him! My first experiences hearing Mr. Friday’s music were when I lived for a while in Dublin (escape from New York) and I’ve been hooked ever since… AND I used to see him at the local Tesco squeezing the tomatoes in a way no one else ever has!
September 26th, 2009 at 11:01 am
Gavin Friday – Gavin Friday – Gavin Friday – Gavin Friday!!!!!!!
September 26th, 2009 at 1:18 pm
If it’s Irish, I love it. I am extremely excited to see Gavin Friday. He’s completely underrated as a performance artist …and hasn’t performed in the U.S. in a very long time! To see the old Mount Temple High School gang, complete with Bono, Guggi, Adam, Edge, Larry and Gavin would be a dream come true for a die hard fan!
September 26th, 2009 at 3:51 pm
Gavin Friday
September 26th, 2009 at 4:23 pm
Gavin Friday.
I’ve been a fan since I first heard about him around 1996 or so, but he hasn’t played around here since…. I’m pretty excited to see everyone on that bill, but Gavin will undoubtedly be the highlight.
September 26th, 2009 at 10:01 pm
Most excited to see Gavin Friday and Guggi because they and the other other Virgin Prunes made Ireland safer for young people with different visions and different sensibilities. They were iconoclastic, driven, heretical, foils for the mundane, fanatics for the sublime. I loved them. They were brave, beautiful and bashful. They molded the music scene in Ireland and made it glorious.
September 27th, 2009 at 8:43 am
I’ll be the ballzy one and say that I’m most excited to see Courtney Love…. I’m doing a spur o’ the moment ,first time trip to NYC, & getting to see her at this event, at CARNEGIE FRIGGIN’ HALL, would make my LIFETIME….
Fingers crossed!….
September 27th, 2009 at 9:18 am
I want to see Courtney Love also because my incredibly awesome friend wants to see her more than anything in the world & she might make out with me if I score these tickets. So help a brutha out.
September 27th, 2009 at 10:46 am
Can’t wait to see GAVIN FRIDAY!!!!
September 27th, 2009 at 10:47 am
I would have to say Gavin Friday. I remember his tour for Shag Tobacco coming to Philadelphia and being to young to get into the club. Would love to see the man who rubs off inspiration to Bono all these years. Getting to see Both Gavin and U2 in the same room will be a dream come true!!!!!!
September 27th, 2009 at 11:31 am
I gotta see Gavin Friday again!!
September 27th, 2009 at 2:44 pm
The thought of witnessing so much Co-creative Love and Magic in one room gives me chills. I can’t say there is one person I am most excited to see, as it is the combined effort that makes this event so powerful. Isn’t that the point, that we need to look after one another…
“Only love, only love can leave such a mark….”
September 27th, 2009 at 6:42 pm
We’ve been following Gavin through his carreer for years now, I can still remember his show in France au “Café de la danse” in 1995, what a great show!
Since then we have seen him on many occasions in Dublin.
Another great show was”Is that all there is”and I really wish there was a live cd as his interpretation was absolutely magnificient!
Having moved to Montreal since it would be a great opportunity to see him at Carnegie Hall
by the way, Gavin, we miss you really much and we are still expecting a new album !!!
Shag Tobacco was a revelation 14 years ago , blow up my mind once again!

I’m excited to see every single good soul that is involved and is a part of this amazing benefit. Seriously, everyone who is performing/participating in this event is stellar in my book. I wish more people would use their “celebrity status” for helping others in need. It would be an absolute honor to attend such an evening at Carnegie Hall and be surrounded by all that positive energy! Happy Birthday Gavin!
September 27th, 2009 at 8:53 pm
I want to see Bono and gavin friday! Never been to carnegie hall either!
September 27th, 2009 at 10:17 pm
I would be ever so excited and delighted to see Larry Mullen JR.. I havent seen him yet on this tour and the last memory im most fond of is when i got to play Out of Control with his drums on his stage on his birthday … still so grateful .. and i could only dream of being at this amazing event as well…!!!! peace
September 27th, 2009 at 10:46 pm
As I sit here in my Desi(red) t-shirt, I confess that it would be most pleasureable to experience the thrill that is Gavin Friday. Additionally and aesthetically, my senses would be stimulated by the genius offerings of Laurie Anderson. Namesake, but not a relative, I feel a bond.
“Just give me what I want and no one gets hurt…”
September 27th, 2009 at 10:47 pm
Gavin Friday is one of our greatest cabaretists.
September 28th, 2009 at 9:16 am
Well… by the looks of the rules of this contest, only those that live in NYC or Long Island are allowed to win. I’d be willing to travel (and yes I understand that will be my own expense), but if those are the rules, then I guess anyone that really wanted to go that doesn’t have the luxury of living in NYC or Long Island is void! That’s really sad since by the looks of the entries, probably most of the people that truly wanted to go (other than myself) don’t even live in the area. Plus (to be quite frank) if Gavin Friday isn’t the reason you’re going… that’s pretty sad. Almost every other performer in the line-up will do a show in NYC at least once every 2 years, and Gavin rarely ever makes his way to the United States. The prospect to see the any of the others exists for the rest of the line-up (and that includes stuff like JG Thirlwell & Lydia Lunch… JG lives in NYC, and Lydia always ends up doing something in NYC it seems like once a year!) The chance to get to see Gavin is extremely rare, and becoming even more rare with age (and extremely long overdue for moi!)

gavin – sing your heart out …
September 28th, 2009 at 10:03 am
Each man kills the thing he loves, by each let this be heard. Some do it with a bitter look, some with a flattering word. The coward does it with a kiss, the brave man with a sword. Some kill their love when they are young, some when they are old. Some strangle with the hand of lust, some with the hands of gold. The kindest use a knife because, the dead so soon grow cold. Some love too little, some too long, some buy and other sell. Some do the deed with so many tears, and some without a sigh. For each man kills the thing he loves, yet each man does not die.
Happy Birthday
September 28th, 2009 at 12:39 pm
Gavin Friday!
Would love to be part of the birthday festivities.
September 28th, 2009 at 1:04 pm
Having met Gavin just recently in NYC, I would LOVE to hear him perfom.
September 28th, 2009 at 1:04 pm
Gavin Friday, hands down.
I’ve wanted to see Gavin live for about 15 years, and the closest I have gotten was to hear his liquid voice in Erik Sanko’s “The Fortune Teller.” He is a phenomenal musician with an incredible range and knack for mood and story. His energy and theatricality bleeds through his music and I imagine his live show is just as infused. It is wonderful to see U2 and friends, who have had more commercial success in the US, give Gavin and his talent the pomp and circumstance it deserves here in the states. And to support the RED campaign as well? That’s icing on the cake.
September 28th, 2009 at 5:21 pm
This much talent in one hall, there is no one I don’t want to see, but of course, mostly Gavin Friday, for celebrating his birthday this way!
September 29th, 2009 at 10:04 am
I want to see Bono and the members of U2. Of course, seeing Shane MacGowan would also be outstanding. Every musical act is going to be great.
September 30th, 2009 at 9:06 am
(meet) dik…
have already had the huge pleasure to see the prunes (minus the virgin) and gavin friday (twice with the bryars ensemble & once for the rogue’s gallery), so seeing dik sharing a stage with guggi & lydia lunch would be a kind of epiphany
ps – dik’s contributions to current 93, sol invictus and nurse with wound are fantastic as well!
September 30th, 2009 at 7:01 pm
Gavin! Courtney! U2!
September 30th, 2009 at 7:02 pm
A whole lotta talent in Carnegie that night. I wanna see everyone.
September 30th, 2009 at 7:04 pm
I’d love a chance to see Flo & Eddie. Are they still on the bill? Big Zappa fan here.
September 30th, 2009 at 7:07 pm
What a fantastic lineup. Should be a wonderful night. I couldn’t possibly choose just one act that I want to see, but I suppose I’m most excited about seeing the Edge play with his brother. Pick me! Pick me!
September 30th, 2009 at 10:29 pm
Wow! Where to start with a line up like that?!
If I had to pick just one, I would have to pick Bono(and the rest of U2 of course!) because Bono is a wonderful caring person and musician, with some of his lyrics, “Every generation gets a chance to change the world Pity the nation that will listen to your boys and girls,” “I could never take a chance Of losing love to find romance”, “I can’t believe the news today Oh, I can’t close my eyes and make it go away How long, how long must we sing this song? ‘Cause tonight we can be as one, tonight” show how much character he has, what a wonderful soul he has… He really opened up my mind last week when I went to one of the stops on the U2 360 tour with his discussion on the RED campaign, among other things. I would love to see them again because it was a crowd of 83,000 and with that many people you loose the feeling of intimacy you should get from a concert; being connected with the artist. Also, Bono has been one of my favorite artists since I was about 6 years old, I used to run around singing “Beautiful Day” pretending I could sing like him…. now I know I can’t sing like him but I still love him and its still amazing to have seen him.
Seeing Bono in person last week was truly amazing, a highlight of my life for sure, and to do it again would really just downright MAGNIFICENT.
Peace & Love.

It’s all about GAVIN! I have never seen him headline a show – and it will be amazing with his old friends Guggi and those other Irish lads with the funny names, they go way back. It’s a brilliant group of artists and with Hal at the helm, it promises to be a brilliant night – and for a great cause!
October 1st, 2009 at 6:18 pm
Who? Rufus Wainwright.
Why? Because he’s Rufus Wainwright and puts on a show like no other….
October 1st, 2009 at 8:43 pm
Well, Rufus Wainwright, obviously. Have you heard the voice on that man?
October 1st, 2009 at 9:49 pm
My life long dream is to meet Larry Mullen Jr. I was fortunate to see U2 in Chicago for the 360 tour but saddened that Larry was hidden behind the cymbals and drum kit for most of the show. I believe he is the anchor in the band and admire his dedication to his teenage dream!
October 3rd, 2009 at 1:14 am
Bono for sure! He has helped inspired my desire to serve those living with AIDS in Africa. I hope to be moving to Swaziland or Uganda next summer to work with orphans and mothers living with AIDS.
