Sufjan Stevens Plays Cub Reporter Again, Depresses Fans

From time to time Sufjan is known to do some some interesting PR work for his Asthmatic Kitty Label. And by PR we don't mean press releases so much as quirky homemade videos, in-depth (albeit biased) album reviews and oddly personal interview with fellow AK artists. The latter is the case this time as he interviews new labelmate and former bandmate (Marzuki) Shannon Stephens (weird huh?), and in the process reveals nearly as much about himself as Shannon does in her answers. Shannon's just released The Breadwinner, her first album in almost a decade. At face value, this sounds encouraging right? Sufjan chatting it up with someone who did who knows that besides releasing a proper album for ten years and then just decided 'Today's the day!" Not so fast... "I'm at a point where I no longer have a deep desire to share my music with anyone, having spent many years imparting my songs to the public," Sufjan says. " Although I have great respect for the social dynamic of music--that it should be shared with others, that it brings people together--I now feel something personal is irrevocably lost in this process." Oy ve. Check out the full interview here. (Via: Stereogum via Asthmatic Kitty)
