Video: Cam’ron f. Vado, “La Bamba”

As Cam’ron gets older he increasingly looks like someone’s gumshoe uncle. The moustache, the gap teeth which seem more prominent (possibly due to the moustache), the yellow color palette—it all screams undercover P.I. But no. This video shows that he is still A. the nastiest (as in gross)/most misogynistic rapper in New York and B. the master of dude parties. If you are a dude and want to go to a party, Cam’ron’s got you. We know, because we went to see him a few months back, and Julianne was the only girl at the show. He also says the line “I ain’t sell enough records to have the things I got,” which is both depressing for its implications and amazing for the fact that he’s rapping about not being that popular and not caring at all. Mildly refreshing understated brags are what’s good for 2010.

stop getting interns to write reviews. this makes no sense, cam’s rap lyric was a reference to moving weight (duh) then being unpopular. just post a video rather trying to write something funny that shows the author knows nothing about rap.

    Dear Dude,

Perhaps you do not grasp the subtleties of my post. The phrase “which is both depressing for its implications” refers to the drug dealing aspect of Cam’ron’s material wealth. Because the lyric is such an obvious reference to something he’s rapped about since his first album, Confessions of Fire (second verse on “Horse and Carriage” much?), I chose to focus on the more interesting aspect of the bar, which is the fact that when the other rappers he came up with spent most of 2004-2008 bragging about their Soundscans, Cam’ron, at the twilight of his career, does not care.

Don’t worry, I do not blame you. Since no one writes anything on rap anymore and just “posts videos,” reading things on the internet has become such a bummer.

    Best,
    Julianne
