Video: Ida Maria f. Iggy Pop, “Oh My God”
- story Matthew Schnipper
This is where we find out Iggy Pop has a secret Norwegian love child. Such a sensible pairing, blood relation or not, with the elder statesman of wriggling around and freaking out matched with hoarse-voiced rock ’n’ roll enfant terrible Ida Maria, who recently dropped out from Perez Hilton’s tour after basically having way too much touring. (We don’t blame her.) So without that extremely pink blog/public visibility, Ida Maria is showing how to milk a song now three years old for all its worth. “Oh My God” alone is a doozy, and with the addition of Iggy it’s a mega-doozy, in all ways good and bad. His voice has dropped down past his knees its so low, like he’s Old Man Time coming to remind Maria of the rock tribulations that await her. No more is this clear than when they ask in quick succession—not in harmonizing unison—Is this fun for you? Then they answer by swinging around in 360s inside an animated bird cage. Not a bad way to age. (via Stereogum)
