Dash Shaw’s The Unclothed Man

December 10, 2009

The Unclothed Man in the 35th Century A.D is Dash Shaw's newest project (you may remember him from our 7-inch cover, the epic (literally) Bottomless Bellybutton, Bodyworld and a whole bunch more). In his words, it's about "a man who pretends to be a droid so he can pose nude for academic figure drawing classes." If it were almost anyone else, we'd be like, What the hell, dude! You just made an animated series about a guy in the future pretending to be a robot in a figure drawing class for an extended period of time. But Shaw is great at making uneasy situations seem normal and warm, even in the moments when the protagonist seems to be at his most alienated (he literally has to pretend he isn't a human being to the point of exhaustion) there's a sense of comfort. If you've got a spare ten minutes we recommend checking it out.
