Dam Mantle, “Rebong” MP3

In the latest edition of Heal Yourself and Move, Andrew Field-Pickering brings up the huge influence of J Dilla’s Donuts. This is not a new point, but it’s still a really good one, especially considering how wide said influence reaches. Dam Mantle, for example, just sent us a bunch of new tracks that sound like a whole symphony of CD players skipping at once. They sound rough, almost unfinished, like dude is just taking tiny pieces of other songs and letting them play for exactly as long as his attention span allows. But it’s a testament to his skill as a producer that all these disparate elements come together without sounding like a gross mess.
