Roky Erickson Finds Pretty Decent Backing Band Hanging Around Austin

In our hometown, if we walked around long enough looking for people to back our vocals, we might find the local hippie guitar player protesting outside of Wal-Mart or maybe some drummer that used to date our sister. This is part of the reason the band never quite took off, but it also serves as one more reason why we wish we grew up in Austin. Psych-rock conquistador Roky Erickson was faced with the same conundrum of musical backing and quickly pinned down his old SXSW buddies and fellow Austin dwellers Okkervil River for not just one song, but his entire album. The album, True Love Cast Out All Evil, will be out April 20 on -Anti. According to Pitchfork, the album features songs written throughout Roky's life, including several recordings taken from his stay at the Rusk State Hospital for the Criminally Insane in the early 70s.
