Finally your parents can join in on the Vampire Weekend backlash/anti-backlash debate as the band’s new album, Contra, is poised to take the number one spot on the Billboard Top 200 next week. According to nameless industry sources, the album is projected to sell between 60,000 and 75,00 copies by the end of this week. All this speculating is based on the first day sales record, so it’s still uncertain whether or not the East Coast quartet will dethrone Ke$ha’s Animal, which sniped Susan Boyle's I Dreamed a Dream from the top spot just yesterday. While the band’s debut self-titled LP only got as high at the 17th spot when it premiered on the Top 200 in 2008, it’s on the cusp of going gold in the U.S., having since sold 491,000 copies.
