The Splinters, “Mysterious” MP3

January 26, 2010

Last night, we fell asleep listening to Sleater-Kinney's second album and had dreams about when we lived in the Pacific Northwest. They were apocalypse dreams, we'll spare you the details, but this Splinters track is so uncannily Portland/Olympia we might as well have conjured it during the night. They perfectly channel the devil-may-care, DIY, girls-in-the-garage sense that made that place special. Maybe not so strangely, they're four ladies from the Bay (the West Coast kind of all bleeds into itself) and they have a member whose sole purpose is to play the tambourine. That's a good gig right there. This is from their forthcoming album Kick, out in March.
