Live: Gilles Peterson Returns to Brooklyn

Legendary British DJ Gilles Peterson performed at Littlefield in Brooklyn last Friday night and, after taking a few years off from the US club circuit, he returned full of vigor and passion to promote Havana Cultura, his project aimed at revealing the vast music scene of Havana. The great thing about him is that at his shows, no one enjoys the beat more than Gilles himself. With a record collection able to top most others in the world, Gilles is an unconventional music enthusiast, known for blending styles that don't typically get mixed together. Surprisingly, his set Friday night was for the most part homogeneous and Havana-centric, though the crowd didn't seem to mind.  A mostly older bunch (sorry 30 and over folks), with a nice contingency of 21+, everyone seemed hesitant to get into it until Gilles took the stage and the tumbao started bumping. Then it was only a matter of time before feet were getting stomped on. Gilles continued spinning beats well into the morning, although I am sorry to say I only made it until 2am. Check out some more pictures after the jump. - Eric Sandler
