Stream: Electrik Red, “I’m That Chick”

Electrik Red dropped one of the most criminally unheralded albums of last year, partly because maybe no one knew it actually came out. It was called How to be a Lady: Volume 1, it was written by The-Dream and Tricky Stewart (you’ve heard of them?), we wrote a feature about it and it was basically the feminist album of 2009. Where was everyone? “I’m That Chick” is from How to Be a Lady: Volume 2 and shall immediately commence being the ladies of FADER’s new theme song, barring the line about feeding off drama. We definitely keep the blogs on fire, though!

  1. I’d argue that its “feminism” was thoroughly undermined at various points through out the album.

in spite of the continuous “nobody heard this,” i think a lot of people heard it and loved it actually

Good song Julianne! We’d love to share some tracks with you from an artist named Marika May. We were introduced to her last year by our friend DJ Blaqstarr and produced a 5 song EP together. We only pressed 100 copies and it is still flying under the radar, very much so, however, she has been featured on Chester French’s blog, a number of smaller LA music blogs and is also going to have a track featured in the major motion picture, “The Bounty Hunter” later this year…. I’m assuming by the little amount of dignity I am feeling right now that I have I dropped enough names/credits?! If you are interested in hearing a couple of tracks then please shoot us your email address to schoolofvelocity@gmail.com… This goes for anybody else reading that would like to hear the music.

Thanks Julianne! Keep the great music coming!!
