The Golden Filter is really fun to listen to. Maybe it's due to their obvious debt to disco or their don't-give-a-care vocals. Either way, the kids are into it. And after a string of exceedingly solid singles, we only have till April 26 to wait for their full-length debut, Voluspa, to drop. The album and the band have been referred to as "dance music with a darker edge." And, yeah, they're kind of dark, but it's not like they're scary dark. They're not monsters-under-your-bed dark. They're, like, nigh mystical. Something like that. Anyway, the Golden Filter leans towards that sort of vibe, whether making outright myth references ("Thunderbird"), incorporating unusual rhythms and breaks, or hosing down any given song with that galactic, shimmery thing they do. Which, in our book, is pretty damn rad. Check the cover art: full-body red gossamer veil? We're in.
