Phosphorescent, “It’s Hard to be Humble (When You’re From Alabama)” MP3

February 26, 2010

Between 2007's Pride and last year's Willie Nelson covers album To Willie, we'd gotten pretty used to throwing on a Phosphorescent record when we wanted to feel like the world was the shittiest, saddest place ever. Don't misconstrue that as a bad thing though, sometimes it's just the zone you want to be in. So imagine our surprise when Phosphorescent's next long player Here's to Taking it Easy (out May 11th on Dead Oceans) kicked off with a full horn section and upbeat vibes reminiscent of early Bruce Springsteen. In fact, itt sounds like it hopped straight out of that one photo of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band hanging out in front of that house from the inside of The Wild, The Innocent & The E Street Shuffle. We were going to do this whole thing where we photoshopped Phosphorescent frontman Matthew Houck into that picture of Springsteen and co., but it seemed like it would be better if you just checked it out for yourself and made your own (better) photoshop collage.
