Stream: Gorillaz, "Plastic Beach"

NPR Music for the win with an exclusive first look at the Gorillaz third album, Plastic Beach. My first suggestion: don't pause the stream, it will restart from the beginning. But then again, you will be hard pressed to find any motivation to stop listening. The first part of the album features an unusual thematic emphasis on groups like the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble and The Lebanese National Orchestra for Oriental Arab Music, broken up with the likes of Snoop Dog, Kano, and Bashy—just so you remember what you're listening to. The album continues through hip hop, pop, rap, electronica, and some things too bizarre to put a name to. Plastic Beach is released in the States on March 9, I suggest you take this time to familiarize yourself with the album before picking any favorites. Sit down, shut up, and listen; not only should you listen all the way through, but listen as many times as it takes for it to sink in (about three for me). What exactly is the concept for this album? It may not be clear, but it's there for you to find. - Eric Sandler
