Scandinavia, you've done it again. Next week Europe's northern region will bestow another great gift on the States, her name is Coco from the Danish pop group, Quadron. It's about time too: new season, a new beginning where we say goodbye (for now) to the winter wifey Lykke Li, who was Sweden's sultry pin-up chanteuse, and say hello Coco's thicker, more confident tone.
Coco has what it takes to make a dent in music this year. She traverses familiar eras of American pop music from Motown to the bubbling electronic basslines we're used to hearing from guys like Sa-Ra. Fun fact: Two-thirds of Sa-Ra (Oh'Mas Keith, Shafiq Husayn), and the newly-signed Bilal are labelmates with Coco and her producer Robin Hannibal. Using an educated palette of sounds, Robin brings out the best in the 21 year-old Coco without making her sound mousy or too vulnerable even on tracks where she's sounds her most sensitive like "Day" and "Pressure." Check out the video for "Pressure" below, and the trailer for Se Min Kjole (See My Dress), a Danish film which features "Slippin" by Quadron.
