Ed Ruscha’s Painted a Lot of Words in the Last 50 Years

April 02, 2010

To celebrate 50 years of Ed Ruscha painting, perennial art good guys DAP have put together a book of 50 years of his paintings called Fifty Years of Painting. It rules. Do you know Ed Ruscha? He paints words and signs and sometimes mountains or really iconic things, like the gas station on the cover of the book. It's called "Standard Station." He likes that real regular shit. Painting of a mountain that says "the" in front of it? No problem. Giant OOF? Let's do this. The book has a plethora of writing about Ruscha, super high class reproductions of his art and an interview with the dude himself. It also has this killer photo, which you see above, of Ruscha standing in front of a sign early on his career. He looks gangster. Kind of like his paintings. Coincidence? OOF. More art after the jump.
