Washington, DC's Legendary 9:30 Club Turns 30

To celebrate the hugely influential venue's 30th anniversary, the Washington Post has put together a multimedia, many-voiced narrative, A History of the 9:30 Club. Even for those who never made it through the doors, the club holds a crucial place in rock history. Among those who spoke to the Post about its place in the club pantheon is Dave Grohl, who first played the club at "15 or 16," and gained a record deal the night of the show for his band Dain Bramage. It was with Fart Blossom Records. Think of all the Nirvana songs that might not have happened if Dave Grohl had not been encouraged to play music that night.
